Many people in Boston - with vocal leadership under Samuel Adams - had endured many taxes without representation since 1764. Adams wrote to the other colonies telling them what was happening to Boston would happen to them. At first, this news received a tepid response, then grew. Suddenly the flame nearly went out in 1772. Then the Boston Tea Party happened as a result of the British Parliament passing the Tea Act. As punishment, General Gage was sent to Massachusetts as both governor and military commander to quell the Boston patriots. Boston Harbor was under blockade. No goods in or out. Suddenly, the other colonies realized that this could happen to them. Critical Mass had been attained. All colonies sent support to Boston. Game on!
