Will Italy, Poland and the British Breakup the EU?

The EU is breaking apart. The UK has already left. There are four more that are teetering on leaving. Nations like Italy and Poland are close to leaving as well. This is very bad for the United States. This will propel Russia into a dominant position.

So Russia would be propelled to a dominant position if the EU breaks up - so what? Of the major powers in the world, only Russia and Putin have been the adults in the room. If that scenario you describe comes about, maybe then the U.S. will address Russia with positive rhetoric instead of hot air and arrows.

I would agree with this assessment if NATO wasn’t around to keep Russia in check. In fact this may strengthen NATO as a Russian deterrent. It is interesting that little is discussed about the Westrrn European Union that has members who are not participating in NATO. I think that Matron was inadvertently referring to the WEU when he was referencing the creation of aa EU standing army. France has kept the WEU alive and this may be one of the reasons. We also have the parnership for peace nations - this NATO program will also strengthen NATO as Russia attempts continued military adventures. The countervailing threat is Germany’s reliance on Russian oil.
