Here's what has been going on for years in Oceania; Both Ford and Holden offer LPG-fuelled vehicles. These have the equivalent of a 99 Octane Rating, and burn 99.7% clean with their exhaust emissions. Taxis and business vehicles involved on servicing routes use these. LPG at the pump is only .99 cents compared to $2.45 per litre of petrol. You can extend oil changes from 6K to 14K due to LPG burning without leaving carbon deposits behind. I retro-fitted my 2009 Ford Falcon over to LPG, and it runs so much better, and emits 99.8% clean exhaust. These cars can also burn natural Gas, of which there is a limitless supply of worldwide. Imagine the cost in air, soil and water pollution as the by-products involved in the manufacturing processes of making car batteries begin to mount... I would say that the Rivia's lay-out of each wheel being powered by an electric motor is fine, but I would also say that a 2-3 cylinder generator powered by LPG or Natural Gas would be very cost efficient, making essentially a zero carbon footprint without the use of batteries. The technique for this technology exists with diesel-electric locomotives and formerly in U-Boats and Diesel-Electric Submarines. But, I'm sure that nothing will come of it....

Operating cost of Electric Car versus Gas Car I calculated the cost per mile for an average gas car using the current average price at the pump of $2.99/gallon and the avg. efficiency of 25 miles/gal, which is well-documented. The cost of the gasoline is increased to include government oil subsidies, government programs, defense spending to protect foreign oil interests and corn-Ethanol subsidies.The operating cost of the gas car is 15 cents/mile on average. Add average maintenance and it's 27 cents/mile. The average electricity rate nationwide is $0.12/KWH. At 300WH/mile, the cost to operate an electric car is 3.6 cents/mile + maintenance. Costs less than 1/3 to drive electric. You save $36K over 200K miles. Enough to buy another car.
