Dave - You are correct that, in London (as in all GB), harming anyone during an act of self-defense will land the attacked person in jail. And that has been true for a good 30 years now. As for the case in NY, I must correct you as you are in error as to the details. Yes, NY is a Communist-controlled hellhole, there is no doubt, but self-defense is still mostly permitted. The case in question regards not the act of self-defense committed by the man, for which he is NOT being charged, but the fact that the handgun he used had belonged to the man's father, and the man simply kept the gun when his father died but DID NOT REGISTER IT as NYS law requires. So the man is in jail on a firearms charge, not for assault.
