In the program '10 Way the World Will End', it showed the sun expanding rapidly where the Earth was swallowed and enveloped in the expanding gasses of the sun itself. Earth vaporized, and the very last humans to live were on board nuclear submarines, but they too later melted, and the submarine was no longer in the water (since evaporated / vaporized)but floating in zero-gravity before melting. Modern subs are survival machines, and when the land-based menu runs out, then the galley will be preparing fish, seafood, and seaweed similar to '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea'.
