Putin won't start WW3, but if it becomes worldwide, he'll do his best to end it. He'd like nothing better than to cease fire, but the West's insistence on fighting the proxy war won't allow him to do so.
A couple things here. Several weeks ago Turkey and the UN reps nearly had Zelensky talked into a peace deal until Boris Johnson flew in to Ukraine and talked him out of it. Listening to Putin's speech, he called for a "limited mobilization." Only reservists will be called up. Finally, who exactly is fighting against the Ukrainian Army? The Donetsk home militia, the Luhansk home militia, the Wagner Group (mercenaries), and the Chechens (Muslims) - not much of the main Russian Army, which are advisors and support for all the above. Meanwhile NATO pumps arms and troops into Ukraine. There has just been a prisoner swap which will bear this out. Let Europe and Russia deal with this. The US should stay out of it.
