The NYT has a long history of glamorizing thugs, tyrants, and con-men. In the 1930s, NYT reporter Walter Duranty was sent to Moscow to cover the Soviet Union. Stalin put him up in a luxury apartment in Moscow and provided him with a "girlfriend." In exchange, Duranty wrote glowing reports of the Holodomor - you know - Stalin's starvation of the peasants and the farmers to the tune of millions of deaths. Funny - the NYT never apologized and Duranty never gave back his Pulitzer Prize and the Pulitzer Committee never asked for it back...
