Prosecutors drop charges against Portland rioters in droves

In some cases, the arrested rioters even confessed to their crimes, but still won’t face prosecution.

“It’s offensive to all the men and women who risked their lives in Portland for 90 to 120 days or even longer in some cases, being attacked night after night after night,” Chad Wolf, the acting Secretary of Homeland Security under President Trump, told Fox News.

An analysis of the cases by the Epoch Times found the bulk of rioters arrested have had charges against them dropped.

The news comes after riots that began last year in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death continued throughout the summer and even into this year.

The situation has remained serious, and local politicians have grown frustrated. Portland’s mayor in April called on residents of the city to turn in their neighbors in a desperate attempt to end the chaos.

“The city is beginning to recover, but self-described anarchists who engage in regular criminal destruction don’t want things to open up, to recover,” Democratic Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said.

“They want to prevent us from doing the work of making a better Portland for everyone,” he added. “They want to burn. They want to bash.”

After Wheeler put out the call, residents responded. Black Lives Matter activists turned in rioters, according to reports.

“If BLM leaders can show the courage to stand up to this mob, then we all should. … make a stand and take our city back,” Wheeler said.

After news that the Portland rioters were walking away without consequences, conservatives reacted sharply on Twitter.
