As a nurse who treated patients that died during H1N1, Hanta, bird and swine flu, I will say this with the conviction of experience... N95 masks with a good seal, goggles, and gloves significantly DECREASE the exposure to extrinsic pathogens thereby making the body more capable of fighting off infectious processes. I am living proof. While these tools may not prevent every viral molecule from entering our airspace, in addition to decreasing the exposure, they also remind us not to touch our face and to practice immaculate hand hygiene.
