The corporate capture of public health

VAX 3

THE BIG LOGIC

In a senate hearing regarding the U.S. government’s response to COVID-19, Dr. Piere Kory said: “United States health agency structures and policies created over the last 50 years have tightly intertwined the pharmaceutical industry with public health institutions, resulting in repeated policies placing pharmaceutical industry interests ahead of the welfare of U.S. citizens.” (Source – 36:46)

Brett Weinstein said: “We have a serious problem in Western civilization… Every institution has been captured.” (Source – 46:22)

Below we provide the evidence showing exactly how each institution, or individual, is captured…

Health Regulatory Agencies Are Captured

NIH Receives Royalties From the Pfizer COVID Vaccine

Quotes below were excerpted from: https://fullmeasure.news/news/shows/conflicts-of-interest-02-23-2023

“NIH doles out $32 billion in federal grant-making to 56,000 entities. And that basically buys you the entire American health care space.”

Such tremendous influence gives NIH “the power to decide which scientists and projects get all those taxpayer billions” and therefore “buys you a lot of friends, buys you a lot of allies, and there’s great incentive to stay on the establishment narratives that NIH disseminates on public health policy.”

But could those policies be influenced by forces not related to public health?

A lawsuit by watchdog group Open The Books against the NIH “unearthed 3,000 pages of royalty payments to NIH scientists from 2010 to 2021. During that time, 2,407 government scientists received $325 million in secretive royalty payments, averaging out to more than $135,000 each.”

For example… “The NIH invented certain aspects of the vaccine that was licensed to Pfizer. When they developed it, they have to pay that royalty. And so… NIH was receiving tens of millions of dollars from Pfizer on those royalty payments.”

NIH Receives Royalties From the Moderna COVID Vaccine

https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/moderna-pays-us-government-400m-catch-payment-under-new-covid-19-vaccine-license

“In Moderna’s earnings release Thursday, the company said it recently paid the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) a $400 million “catch-up payment” under a new royalty-bearing license agreement between the parties.

The payment is part of a license agreement between Moderna and NIAID inked late last year. With the deal, Moderna is paying the U.S. government to access “certain patent rights concerning stabilizing prefusion coronavirus spike proteins,” Moderna Chief Financial Officer Jamie Mock said on a conference call Thursday.”

NIAID is one of the 27 institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At the time this royalty agreement was struck, NIAID’s director was Dr. Anthony Fauci.

Health and Drug Regulators Are Not Independent From The Companies They Are Meant to Regulate

The British Medical Journal analyzed various health regulators’ budgets —particularly the portion focused on drugs — and discovered that, in each case, the majority is derived from the industry it is tasked to regulate…

  • Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia – 96%
  • European Medicines Agency (EMA) – 89%
  • Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK – 86%
  • Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) in Japan – 85%
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – 65%
  • Health Canada (HC) – 50.5%

Excerpts from the report:

Sociologist Donald Light of Rowan University in New Jersey, who has spent decades studying drug regulation, said: “…a reliance on industry fees is contributing to a decline in evidentiary standards, ultimately harming patients.”

“…being largely funded by fees from the companies whose products it is charged to evaluate is a fundamental conflict of interest and a prime example of institutional corruption… Doctors and patients must appreciate how deeply and extensively drug regulators can’t be trusted so long as they are captured by industry funding.”

While historical drug disasters like sulfanilamide and thalidomide raised the stature of regulatory agencies, Light argues regulators now need their own watchdog and is calling for a drug and vaccine safety board, independent of the drug regulator, with the authority, staffing, and funds to investigate incidents of patient harm. “Countries have independent safety boards for airlines and their passengers. Why not for drugs and patients too?” says Light.

HHS Has a Vested Interest in COVID Vaccines

According to HHS’ Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund Report for 2022, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), a department of HHS, “directly supported development and manufacturing of seven [COVID] vaccine candidates including Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine”.
