In the 1930s, FDR used the government to deny radio broadcast licenses to any radio station that was against any of his administration's policies, including the New Deal. Licenses would be revoked for opinion, different points of view, political speech, or any subject not deemed "in the public interest." He forced radio stations to carry his "fireside chats" and nearly all of his political speeches AT NO CHARGE to the government. After all, FDR claimed, it was their "patriotic" duty to do so. This censorship of radio had to be done in order to refute the "poisonous propaganda of the conservative press." At that time, SCOTUS told FDR he could not censor newspapers, but radio was fair game.
