Scenarios Are Endless

The former Yugoslavia was predicted to break-up after the passing of strong-man Josef Tito. He was the "glue" holding Yugoslavia together. A complex example to be sure. And Yugoslavia was much more ethnically divided than the US is. After a bloody civil war, several countries came into being out of one. Today, Serbia makes cars, Kosovo is Islamic, etc. Point being, a split can be done. It almost succeeded in California. Individual states, especially the smaller ones, will find it difficult to fight the federal government alone. A confederation, a block of states must pool resources. The scenarios are endless. A new banking system. A new system of taxation. A military. Maybe guerilla warfare in the beginning because the feds won't go away.

Not that simple here. The opposing factions are too intermingled. The Yugoslavia example is not quite the same. Yugoslavia was an artificial construct, created from provinces/countries of the Austro-Hungarian Empire by the winning powers as a result of the Treaty of Trianon/Versailles. Of course, there was some intermingling between people of the "provinces" or states of Yugoslavia, but they maintained their cultural identities, and in many cases returned to their groups, now recreated as countries.
