In my Air Force career, I was a 7-level maintenance supervisor on Airborne Avionics Systems. This meant I inspected and certified that the technician that repaired the avionics system to 100% function (Doppler radar, TACAN, radios, etc.) And I signed off on the paperwork which was an official government document, almost an affidavit. If that airplane crashed and it could be tied to the piece of equipment I signed off on, I was liable. The consequences were PRISON time. So far I have heard NOTHING about the people responsible for panels and doors flying off aircraft mid-air, engine fires, fuel leaks. No one has been held responsible. The one man that was willing to talk about shoddy work is dead. What will happen when 200-300 die in a crash?
